Certified Translation in Alberta
A2Z Language Hub delivers IRCC-accepted certified translation to every city in Alberta, fully online, starting at $55 CAD per page.
Alberta draws more interprovincial and international arrivals per capita than any other large province, and its two gatekeepers for foreign documents are unusually specific. The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program — renamed from the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program in 2022 — assesses civil-status and employment records for nomination, while the Alberta International Qualifications Assessment Service evaluates foreign education for employers and regulators. Neither will read a document in a language other than English, and both require the translator’s signed certification alongside it.
The province’s demand is split between its two metropolitan regions and its resource towns. Calgary and Edmonton generate the immigration, university and court work; Fort McMurray, Grande Prairie, Lethbridge and Medicine Hat generate employment and licensing files for workers recruited into energy, agriculture and health care, often with no translator in the community. The Court of King’s Bench of Alberta and the Alberta Court of Justice sit in all of these centres, and they apply the same certification standard everywhere.
Is there a certified translator in Alberta?
Yes. A2Z Language Hub's certified translators serve every community in Alberta, and the service is delivered online rather than over a counter: send a scan or a phone photograph of your document, approve a fixed quote, and the certified translation comes back by email with a signed certificate of accuracy naming the translator and their credentials. That certificate is what IRCC, Canadian courts, universities and provincial licensing bodies require, and it is included in every order at no extra charge. Pricing starts at $55 per page and does not change with your distance from our office.
Being outside a large city changes nothing about the work or the price. Alberta clients in smaller communities get the same translators, the same certification and the same turnaround options as clients in the province's largest centres, because nothing in the process depends on you being able to reach a translation office in person.
Which Alberta institutions require a certified translation?
Immigration offices, courts, universities, credential evaluators and licensing bodies in Alberta all require a certified translation of any document that is not in English or French, and each of them accepts the same thing: a complete translation of the document accompanied by the translator's signed statement of accuracy. None of them keeps a list of approved vendors. The bodies Alberta clients most often submit our translations to are:
- Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP)
- Alberta International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS)
- Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada — Calgary and Edmonton service points
- Court of King’s Bench of Alberta and the Alberta Court of Justice
- University of Alberta, University of Calgary, Mount Royal University, MacEwan University, SAIT and NAIT
- Alberta Health Services and the province’s professional regulators
- Alberta registry agents — exchange of a foreign driver’s licence
- Settlement agencies including the Calgary Catholic Immigration Society and the Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers
What are the most requested translation languages in Alberta?
The languages most often requested for certified translation in Alberta are Tagalog, Punjabi, Arabic, Hindi, Mandarin, Spanish, Urdu, French, Somali and Amharic. Tagalog and Punjabi lead because of long-established Filipino and South Asian communities in both cities and in the energy towns, while Arabic, Somali, Amharic and Tigrinya volumes reflect Alberta’s refugee resettlement intake — a profile closer to Ontario’s than to British Columbia’s. Written translation is available in 90+ languages overall, so a pair that is not on this list is still very likely covered — ask for a quote rather than assuming it is not.
Which documents do Alberta residents most often need translated?
Certified translation orders from Alberta are mostly civil-status records, academic credentials and court filings. Every document is translated in full — including stamps, seals, handwritten annotations and the reverse of the page — and certified with a signed statement of accuracy, because a summary or an extract is the most common reason a filing is returned. The documents this region generates most are:
- Academic transcripts, degrees and professional credentials for an IQAS assessment
- Employment references and payroll records supporting an AAIP nomination
- Birth and marriage certificates for permanent residence, citizenship and family sponsorship
- Foreign driver’s licences for an exchange at an Alberta registry agent
- Trade certificates and apprenticeship records for Alberta licensing bodies
- Affidavits and foreign judgments filed in the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta
